God’s Great Creation {Book Review}

_225_350_Book.1313.cover

The Adventure Bible God’s Great Creation is great book that children can read on their own or with just a bit of help. My six year old daughter is eager to learn more about the Bible and this particular reader has made that simpler to do. She was able to read this level 2 I can Read selection through with very little help from me. I’ve caught her reading it numerous times over the week and she’s priding herself in knowing the order of which God created the world, the animals, night, day, elements, people in it, and so forth. I really like that this story doesn’t leave out any important details. I was excited to learn that this book covered not just the creation but the fall of man as well.

In this reader there are 32 pages. Every page features well done illustrations that aren’t goofy or over the top.  The story isn’t wordy and it’s straight to the point. The words are pretty easy to read for a child and only recall my daughter needing help with two or three. At the end of the book there’s a page that a page that features People in Bible Time with a short bit of information about Adam and Eve, there’s a Bible verse and an area called Words to Treasure which talks about the story just read and reminds us of God’s love for us!

I would recommend this book! It’s a great way for a child to learn about the Bible that’s on their level. The illustrations are appealing and add well to the story and the bit at the end is a great reminder of what was just read. Great when read alone or with the family! An excellent prompt for conversations about God’s love and how our world began!

Blessed are the Peacemakers

bbearpcmkThe Berenstain Bears Blessed are the Peacemakers is a cleverly written story that teaches children about getting a long. This book is a good one to have on your shelf as your child is learning what the Bible says about our character and how we should treat each other. If a child is in school but not limited to just, they’ll start picking up on certain group of kids that tend to isolate themselves from another and witness behaviors such as not getting along and even bullying due to differences!

The Bible verse the book begins with is Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be callled the Children of God”. Brother and Sister Bear notice two groups of friends at school that just don’t get along even though they get along well with both. Things really get into a mess when a school play is put on and these groups have to learn to work together. Brother and Sister bear are good examples that sometimes we should step in and try to make peace between others when it arises.

There are 24 pages in this book in this 8×8 sized book. I like the book isn’t overly large and can easily be brought along with us in the car or stored easily on our bookshelf. The illustrations are done in the classic style I’m used to when it comes to Berenstain Bears books. The story is written well for the 4-8 year old age level it’s aimed at. My kids ages 6 and 3 1/2 sat through this whole story and seemed well received. I’m sure we’ll be reading it again and again.

Children will learn that having peace doesn’t always mean you’ll be the best of friends and that it can take work. This book opens the door to a world of discussion with your kids. As a parent, I really like that at the end of the story there’s a Activities & Questions from Brother and Sister Bear page. On this page, there’s three questions in which some apply to the story and to a child about peacemakers they noticed in their own life. Following the questions, there’s a Get out and do it section which gives a family the opportunity to work together and keep each other accountable in being peacemakers whether it’s at home, school, or wherever else.

I would most definitely recommend this book for any home, school, or church setting. This lesson can be applied to one of any age. My daughter was able to read most of the words in this book all on her own though I would suggest this book would be best read along with an adult so the the life lesson is understood and discussed in manner of what they should do if they note disagreement going on between others or between themselves and a classmate.

I Can Read: The Berenstain Bears God Shows the Way {Book Review}

bernsteinbear3bk

The Berenstain Bears God Shows the Way is one of the many great titles in the Living Lights I Can Read! series. Having grown up listening to my own mother read other collections of Berenstain Bears books  to me, I for certain was thrilled to learn about this 3 books in 1 title to share with my own children. One of the biggest draws for me to this specific book was the fact that my daughter could not just listen but be able to read it aloud on her very own! She after listening to me read all three stories was confident enough to read it on her own and I’ve even caught her reading it aloud to her 3 1/2 year old brother!
