VeggieTales: Noah’s Ark DVD {Review & Giveaway for a $10 Gift Certificate from Family Christian.com}

I received a VeggieTales Noah’s Ark screener for review purposes as a Family Christian Blogger. No other compensation was received.

Noah DVD

Veggie Tales: Noah’s Ark offers this well known Bible story up in a way that one would most expect from the point of view of an incredibly imaginative cucumber. That being said, the story is elaborated upon, in which it has a side story of it’s own about one of Noah’s sons. His son is not entirely thrilled about the plan God has for them. He struggles and tries to make things happen on his own, but finally realizes in the end that God’s plans aren’t always ours and that we should trust Him with our lives fully!

A Father’s Love {Book Review}

ADVEFATHLOVEBK

A Father’s Love is a level two I Can Read! retelling of the familiar Bible story of a father’s love for his child. This specific title is part of the I Can Read! series based on the bestselling NIV Adventure Bible. Young readers learn about how God’s love for us is never-ending through this tale that highlights the importance of family relationships and forgiveness.

My daughter was really interested in this story. She said sometimes she would rather go off and have fun instead of doing chores. Well, that’s kinda exactly what the son in this story did. He decided he wanted to go spend his inheritance and have what he thought was a lot of fun in his life. We see the consequences of his careless decisions when hard times hit and those he thought were his friends wouldn’t help him. He sees how bad his choices were in spending all he had and he returns home. My daughter thought the Dad would be upset and mad but instead saw that true love forgives just like Christ forgives us and is always there with open arms.

My six year old had no stumbling over words nor needed any help with pronunciation in reading. I like that she’s learning fundamental truths of her faith. At the end of the book there’s a page that a page that features People in Bible times. There’s a Bible verse about being lost than found along with another Bible verse area called Words to Treasure which can be used for a memory verse if so desired.

I would recommend this book! It’s a great way for a child to learn about the Bible that’s on their level. The illustrations are appealing and add well to the story and the bit at the end is a great reminder of what was just read. Good when read alone or with the whole family! Though I would recommend reading together so if your child has any questions, you are there to answer them.

The Identical DVD Review & Giveaway

theidentical

The Identical is an enjoyable movie.  I wasn’t sure what to expect but was thoroughly impressed. My first thought that it was a movie about Elvis but it’s not. It’s based on that era starting first in the great depression and moving  through to the 1970’s.

I appreciated that in the movie, even though the character is raised the son of preacher it, isn’t overly religious feeling.  God is quite present and the biggest message that can be taken away is that if God is in your dreams, nothing can stand against them.

Well known actors such as Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, Seth Green, and Blake Rayne do a great job. They display the  struggles, joyful moments,  and deep emotions very well.  I feel many people will be drawn into seeing the film after recognizing such big names.

It’s a story of the importance of family, finding your way, and letting go. It’s heart-felt, touching, and completely  safe & appropriate for the whole family to watch together. I would highly recommend it!

There is over 85 minutes of bonus content including “Making The Identical,” Behind the Scenes, and Deleted Scenes! Rated PG / Approx. 107 minutes

There’s also a movie sound track which features songs spanning the 50,60’s, and the 70’s! All are quite appropriate and great listens!

Miracles of Jesus {Book Review}

null_jpg_9836

The Miracles of Jesus is a book that is part of the I Can Read series based on the NIV Adventure Bible. In, this collection we see not just one miracle that Jesus did but three which included The feeding of the 5,000, Jairus’ daughter, the healing of the sick woman. My 6 year old daughter is eagerly growing in her Faith and this book shows her how Jesus spread the love of God through miracles and teachings to the people. After reading this book aloud she told me that this love of God is still ever present to this day and that anyone that has faith and believes would receive it!

This is a I Can Read! level 2 reader which means children may need help with reading it. This level tends to present high interest stories for developing readers. My daughter was able to read nearly all of the stories by herself, only needing help with words like Galilee and the name of Jairus. She didn’t know the story about Jairus’ daughter but was excited to tell me she knew about Jesus feeding the people and of the woman that was sick. She also pointed out that the illustrations showed other miracles done which were of Jesus healing the blind man and helping a man that couldn’t get up walk again.

In this reader there are 32 pages. Every page features well done illustrations that aren’t goofy or over the top. The stories are broken up into just two as when Jesus is speaking with Jairus that is when the miracle of healing the sick woman happens. The book isn’t wordy and the sentences shorts. At the end of the book there’s a page that a page that features Did You know? with a short bit of information about the miracles Jesus preformed, there’s a Bible verse and an area called Words to Treasure which can be used for a memory verse if so desired.

I would recommend this book! It’s a great way for a child to learn about the Bible that’s on their level. The illustrations are appealing and add well to the story and the bit at the end is a great reminder of what was just read. Good when read alone or with the whole family! I happy my daughter was so taken with it and she thinks all kids her age should read it.

I Can Learn The Bible by Holly Hawkins Shiver {Book Review}

i-can-learn-the-bible

I Can Learn the Bible: The Joshua Code for Kids has made learning more about God through scripture exciting for my son and daughter! We’ve only just begun this weekly study as a family and so far, it has been a huge blessing. It’s encouraging to see how committed my children have been to go through this book together. I will say memorization has not been the easiest tasks for one of my children, but with the way each verse is presented it hasn’t been an issue! I’m quite impressed.

In this book, there are 52 Bible verses and plethora of kid appealing illustrations that’s pretty appealing to kids. The book is designed that children learn one scripture a week. The way each verse is presented is done exceptionally well. Each weekly scripture spans about 3-4 pages, it’s not strung out but instead simple and to the point. The author has broken each verse down with a series of thoughts and questions a child might would ask about it. Children will understand how the verse applies to them and learn more about God’s love and guidance for their lives.

If as a parent one is needing a bit more direction in helping their child or children to memorize scripture, there’s a letter to parents in the the beginning of the book and tips at the end. One of my favorite tips suggested is to write down the scripture where one could see it throughout the week. I wrote the first verse in this book on our white board and the results were good!

I can think of no better way than to start the New Year off than to commit to learn a new verse for all 52 weeks. You don’t have to start at the beginning of the book. There are weeks but not yearly dates. You can pick it up and start anywhere you’d like. After having such promising results, I think this study would be an excellent choices for families with 4-10 year olds. I highly recommend it!
