If you asked my older children their favorite subject school I am more than certain they’d chime back with a reply that it is Science. I’m not surprised by this because I know children (and adults! ) are all about discovering new things, learning how things work, and determining how that information could be applied where applicable. This type of discovering is much like learning to be a Christian and growing to be more like Jesus! So when I heard about Louie Giglio’s latest book ” Indescribable 100 Devotions for Kids About God and Science”, that pair these two very impact subjects together, I knew it would be the perfect book for my family. I Am Devotional 100 Devotions About the Names of God is an exceptionally well thought out and written book for families of young children between the ages of 6-10 years old to share together. I applaud author Diane Stortz and illustrated by Diane Le Feyer for such a wonderful collection geared toward boys and girls. Continue reading
The Adventure Bible, NKJV by Lawerence O. Richards is a great choice for children ages 8-12 years old eager to learn and grow in the Word. This Bible does a great job of drawing children in with its colorfully well done jungle and safari theme illustrations! The features are many and really everything you really could want in creating a welcoming introduction to the Word. Children have to make the choice of coming to God as well as growing in their journey with Him on their own, and I think presenting them with the right tools such as this is key.
Among the first few pages of this Bible is a section that instructs the reader how to use the Bible. It goes into detail from how the table of contents is like a map and the concordance in the back helps you find verses by a specific theme of word. It continues on teach kids in how the Bible is broken down into books, chapters, verse and so on. I really like that this section is included in guiding children how to navigate the Bible!
This Bible has many fantastic features which are found all throughout that helps children understand and grasp what will be read. The Book introductions give a powerful first look into what’s covered.
There are many sections which I will explain. Words to Treasure highlights Bible verses that would be good to memorize. There’s Did You Know section which includes fascinating facts and further details into the verses. Life in Bible times features illustrations and articles from what kinda of food was eaten, how houses were built, and so forth. People in Bible Times is a short but close up snippet of the people talked about in the Bible. And last but now least Let’s Live It is a section that provides many hands-on activities for children to apply what is being read in their own lives.
This Bible is well thought out. Since it’s hard cover it’s likely to withstand a lot of use and last for quite some time. Amongst all the features is a How to know you a Christian page, reading plans, how to pray, full color maps, and much more. I can’t say enough good things about this Bible. It would make a wonderful gift and I would recommend it for any child, church, or Christian school.
