Magen’s Bay Designs at Etsy {review and giveaway}

My daughter Melody loves blocks! She took to blocks at a very young age and even now being over the age of two, she plays with her blocks on a daily basis. Blocks are a universal toy that are great for both boys and girls of all ages!

Brooke owner and sole creator of Magen’s Bay Designs over on Etsy had it right when she decided to put her love for creating, crafting, and her child together to create numerous one of a kind sets of blocks on Etsy!

My daughter and I were given the opportunity to review a set of six Alphabet wooden Blocks set of All sorts of Animals. I knew right away my daughter would love these even before giving them to her! It’s really great when I can find a toy or item for my child that without a doubt I know they’ll love!

First and foremost,  I’m very impressed with the quality of the blocks! The edges have been sanded. Each of the blocks are covered with a different pattern of paper and sealed several times with a non-toxic varnish. Another plus is that a canvas storage bag is included with no additional charge for each set of blocks you may order!

I love this set of blocks and so does my daughter Melody. We have fun daily building little towers, pointing out each animal and the sounds they make, and also it’s great fun to help my daughter learn the letter of the alphabet. A fun & educational toy that can be passed down. These blocks will definitely be a special keepsake for my daughter’s Hope Chest.

I enjoyed getting to know Brooke through my Etsy meet and greet questions and I hope you do too!

1.Why did you decide to start doing this on Etsy and how long have you been?

I started my Etsy shop about 9 months ago. A good friend of mine and I both decided we wanted to be constructive with our craft hobbies. From there I really just wanted to be able to make things and be able to have a little more craft spending money to make new things.

2. What do you enjoy the most when creating your products?

I guess what I enjoy most about making my blocks is that most little kids love them. They are a universal toy that kids of all ages can be creative with. My son likes to work on projects when I make blocks so it is fun for both of us.

3. Apart from creating things, what do you do?

My “job” right now is being home with my son. He is 2 1/2 and I truly love being his mom and a wife to my husband. Prior to being a mom I had a job in a Commercial Insurance Office.

4. What inspires you?

I have always loved paper and stickers. So I guess it was no surprise I incorporated paper with my Etsy shop. When I see new collections come out I can’t wait to get my hands on them. Now I get excited to add more blocks to my etsy store.

5.In five years you’d like to be…?

In five years I would really like to have my own business creating and selling childrens toys. I have started the journey and now just have to work hard and see where it takes me.

Overall Thoughts…

I would highly recommend visiting Magen’s Bay Designs and picking up a special gift for the children in your life! Brooke has a wide selection of styles of blocks, even special puzzles blocks that can be put together to reveal fun scenes!  Right now for a limited time several full sets of blocks are on sale for $27 a set. Crafty Friday: An Added Bow and Autumn Themed Clips

This week I made a few more alligator hair clips and this go around, I tried my hand at adding a little bow with a crystal embellishment to the top. I have to say it came out a lot better than I expected! And with that being the case, I can’t wait to try to create more!

I’m not quite ready to open an Etsy store yet for my hair accessories because I want to build up a bigger collection first but I am willing to sell a few by word of mouth or by means of my blog. If you are interested in the sets pictured below, feel free to e-mail me and we’ll set something up!

Note that these Autumn themed alligator clips are 1 3/4″ long and are covered quality grosgrain ribbon. The ribbon is treated with heat so there will not be any fraying. These sets include 2 clips for 2.50! You can contact me at ellybean (at) connected2christ dot com, if interested.
