Review: Teeny Tiny and the Witch Woman…and more spooky Halloween stories

Halloween is almost upon us and we’ve been having fun reading and watching all sorts of spooky tales with the kids and without! Since my daughter is still pretty young we are keeping the really creepy and frightening stuff at bay until she is old enough not to become afraid of it. And with that being said we’ve been enjoying and would like to recommend the Scholastic Storybook Treasure DVD collections of Halloween stories!

What’s been in our DVD player for the past week has been Teeny Tiny and the Witch Woman…and more spooky Halloween stories! These stories are quite kid-friendly and teach children important character skills such as stories about self esteem and creativity. Storybook Treasures: Chrysanthemum … and More Whimsical Stories {review}

Oh, how much this mom loves the story of Chrysanthemum. If you know nothing about this tales it’s about  a sweet little mouse that thinks her name is absolutely perfect — until the kids at school make fun of her. It quite a fun little story that teaches the importance of not being ashamed of who you are and how we shouldn’t let the negative things that others say about us affect who we are. I love that this tale was brought to life in the Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVD collection!

Storybook Treasures: Chrysanthemum … and More Whimsical Stories features 17 classic tales on a total of three dvds. Main DVD titles include Chrysanthemum, Rapunzel, and Is Your Mama A Llama? In entirety, there is practically four hours of content. Stories from this particular collection focus  on self-esteem; reading skills; growth and change. Well known actors and actresses such as Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker, Danny Glover, and others have lent their voices to bring each story to life. And added bonus content includes Spanish versions of “Is Your Mama A Lama?“, “Noisy Nora“, “Owen“, and “The Caterpillar and the Polliwog“. And let’s not forget that all the DVD’s from these collections have a read-along feature.

I’ve been enjoying watching the entire collection with my children! We thought Owen was a really cute story about a young mousling who getting to old to carry his favorite blanket around all the time! And a few others  that my daughter liked was the story of the Little Red Hen and Is Your Mama a Llama? My daughter recently got to pet a baby Llama at a festival we went to and thought it was a lot of fun to see and hear a story about a baby Llama!
