The Littlest Angel {DVD Review & Giveaway}

About the Film: The Littlest Angel tells the story of a young boy who arrives in heaven before his time. Home-sick and lonely, he will travel back to earth, with his friendly pup Halo, to retrieve a most selfless and precious gift for The Baby Jesus. First released in book form in 1946, The Littlest Angel became popular for its ornate words and phrases paired with beautifully muted oil paintings. Tazewell’s book was adapted into a TV musical in 1969 starring Johnny Whitaker, and theatrical versions continue to be done by schools and church groups today. The Author would follow-up with another childhood favorite, “The Littlest Snowman,” that would be read annually on the “Captain Kangaroo” show.

It’s a modern twist on the timeless tale of an Angel that discovers the greatest gifts in life are faith, friendship and doing the right thing. This new version of The Littlest Angel features wonderful animation and great vocal talent, including Ron Perlman (“Beauty and the Beast,” Tangled) and is sure to become a holiday favorite, much like the book.

Special features for this film include:Free study guide download (available @ The Littlest Angel Movie page). You can print coloring pages, download bible study leader and student plans.

Our Thoughts…

A warming tale that not only children will enjoy but adults as well. This movie was a great feel good flick to put on and cozy up on the couch together while snacking out on popcorn and hot chocolate. For my children ages 3.5 years old and ten months The Littlest Angel was a winner and though not entirely paying attention, my husband seemed to enjoy it as well. I noted this because he brought it up in conversation later this week.

The Littlest Angel has a heartfelt story line that teaches the importance of Faith, Friendship, and Doing the Right Thing. The animation is very colorful and warm. It’s quite inviting to the eye and the characters are quite interesting to learn about. I love when a book is made into a film well and this one certainly has hit the mark!

I would highly recommend picking this one up to enjoy during the Christmas season! This one would be fantastic to take a long during those long trips to visit family and even to watch when there’s not much else for the  kids to do. You can pre-order The Littlest Angel on right now for $9.99 and eligible for free super savers shipping.

Here’s a fun fact: Winnie the Pooh is 85 years old. Can you believe this well known bear and his friends have been around this long?

I loved that Disney’s Winnie the Pooh movie was completely family friendly. I caught myself and my three year old laughing and smiling a lot at all the situations the characters found themselves in. Children’s Music Review: Big Bully

Big Bully: Best Foot Forward Series is a brand new collection of music focusing all about bullying geared toward children age 4-11 years old. This is  CD is a great discussion starter among parents, teachers, and children in addressing attitudes and behaviors of others and how to handle negative situations more positively.

Popular music artist such as Milkshake, The Hip Waders, Renee & Jeremy, and more join in to make this collection really stand out. I found the songs quite catchy , totally kid-friendly, and full of lyrics that are the thoughts that often come to mind when dealing with a bullying situation for a child. A collection that encourage kids to be the very best they can be. Kids are very impressionable so I think something like this would be good to introduce and play quite often during the school year though not limited to.

The music tunes really stand out and there’s a huge variety such as a two – beat country, up to date folk, a ukelele waltz, and so much more. I’m really liked the One and Only Me song by Janet’s Planet. It’s even a good reminder to us grown-ups about valuing our self and to stop trying so much to impress others. I even catch myself trying to do that on occasion. And the song I’m Sorry really tugs at the emotions!

The cover art is really cute. It features bright kid colored monsters that look like they could have been drawn by a child. In entirety, the CD itself very inviting.  I like how inside the cover it reads lots of things like “We dream of a world where music can help and heal”. And oh how that should be how we live to help and care for those around us.

Big Bully covers self validation, Good attitudes, How to Apologize, and so many other great character values on those hard life lessons.  I highly recommend this collection to parents, teachers, and caregivers of school age children!

Big Bully is available online through Recess Music, Amazon, iTunes and many other retailers throughout the US.

DVD Review: The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog…and more stories by Mo Willems

I’m super excited to share the news about a brand new DVD cartoon collection of stories vividly brought to life by author Mo Willem that will be hitting the stores later this month. If you didn’t already know,  The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog  is acutally the second volume to be offered by the Scholastic Storybook Treasures collection featuring Mo Willems.

We adored  The Pigeon Drives the Bus Volume 1 DVD collection and have not been disappointed with the second volume which offers three award winning stories and lots of great bonus features! Each of the stories features narration by Mo and  his daughter Trixie Willems. You’ll get to know a little more about the author, the animating process of Pigeon, and much more!

Each of the stories is cleverly written and supports teaching children about cooperation, problem solving, and with the fantastic DVD read a long feature the entire collection supports early reading.

The entire collection is a little over an hour. There are tales of a bunny that is mistaken by another that looks just like it, a naked mole rat that wants to wear clothes, and of course the pigeon that finds a hotdog. My 3 1/3 year old daughter is quite taken with these tales! And be warned your child might want a hotdog afterwards like mine did. Heck, I did too! We just had to be careful of the ducklings that may have wanted to come over and take a bite!

The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog can be purchased on the New Kideo site for 14.95. This would be great to add to your children’s collection of dvd’s, local library, and classroom! Street Date for this title is October 25th!
