We cry out for rain. Currently, (as of my post) there are over 50 wildfires burning in the Western region of America. It seems like every time I check the news, there’s another fire that has started either naturally or out of negligence from the urgent burn-ban that’s been up for months now.
I’m pleased that even though it’s a roaring upper 90s outside that I brought myself to cook a dessert bread for my family. Everyone is all about Fall and I’m all there with them but the truth is, Summer isn’t officially over on the calendar till Friday, September 22nd. That’s right, Summer is here to stay in Oregon for three more weeks. I want to get all the cool weather clothes out so badly but I’m stopping myself and enjoying these last few weeks of warm weather and sunny skies. Autumn is my favorite season so I’m really eager for the season change though!
Those who follow the news and weather will know it’s been abnormally hot in the Northwest. Not only are we dealing with temperatures 10-15 degrees above average but the air quality too. The air has been affected by all the forest fires in Oregon and Washington. It’s been deemed unhealthy and highly recommended to keep children indoors and those with health and breathing issues like asthma.
This is our third year in a row picking blueberries during the Summer as a family. Blessed with the price of $1.35 a pound we brought home 20lbs worth. Pie, jam, cobblers, scones, and additions to pancakes are plans for these berries.
Lydia got in on the action and was helping pick until she discovered how tasty the berries were and then more went in her mouth than the bucket. However, she discovered the green ones weren’t so great and had such a hilarious reaction. lol
Do you enjoy picking berries with your family or other fruits during the Summer?
Melody turned 9 years old last week. 9! I can hardly believe this will be her last year sporting a single digit age. Next year is the big 1-0. Wow! She’s been all into Zelda: Breath of the Wild a game available on the WiiU and on the recently released Switch (One guess what the kids want for Christmas). It was no surprise that she wanted a Zelda themed cake for her birthday this year.
