Science Experiment: The Inspiration of Insulation

DSCN4950
I’ve been using the Magic School Bus as our primary science for this year. The internet has a plethora of information, lesson plans, and print out sheets  revolving around this series which makes compiling our lessons and experiments fun, fast, and easy! I’ll be posting many more and keeping somewhat of a digital record here on my blog! I’ll later compile a photo book of our science and nature studies for the year!

Geeky Grabs for Science Lovers!

Chemistry book and glassware

If you are a lover of science or know someone that is, you’ll want to know about these cool offerings. That’s right, I used the word cool to describe products created for all the geeks and nerds that embrace and adore everything related to science. If being honest, most will admit that there’s a little bit science love in all of us. Oh come on,  you know you’ve watched an episode of Myth Busters and been in awe of all those sweet mentos and soda rockets going around on the internet.

Science Unit Studies For Homeschoolers and Teachers {Schoolhouse Crew Review}

sciunitpic
Science is something that I feel is important to include in our home-school studies. Children need to understand the how and why things work and  form their own conclusions in solving problems.  Science causes one to observe, form a hypothesis, experiment, and interpret what’s going on. It’s the basic foundation of how we learn about everything!

Up to this point, my children have been learning about the world around them by doing a science project every few weeks and watching like themed  videos. I’ve been creating units myself for the kids. My initial goal for the upcoming school year has been to increase these studies. Cementing certain scientific concepts in memorable fun way has always been the goal. However, I’ve been finding myself spending far more time than I imagined getting everything together and have found myself running out of steam!  As it so happened, through the Schoolhouse Crew Review team, I was given the opportunity to share our experience with Funtastic Unit Studies book Science Unit Studies For Homeschoolers and TeachersIt honestly couldn’t have come at a better time!

SmartKidz Media Library for Homeschoolers {Schoolhouse Crew Review}

smartkidz

I like supplementing our schooling with educational shows, movies, and documentaries.  While going through unit studies, I plan ahead and usually can find what I need at our local library but not always. But when life gets busy and I need to put something on as a substitute  from our normal studies I can’t always plan ahead. This leaves me to search on the net and sift through a few of our subscription services. These services aren’t terrible but  there typically is  a lot of other content to sift through to find the educational material hoped for. Much of the content is not always family friendly or appropriate to browse through with my children around. We’ve happened across things on-line and through these services that have had ads that contained bad language, inappropriate images, and so on.  The ease of being able to move to unsafe destinations is simply unraveling and not something I want my children privy to.

Visual Learning Systems: Digital Science Online {Schoolhouse Crew Review }

vsciencepin
Science is one of the most loved school subjects by my children. It’s interesting, hands-on, and exciting. In learning by observation and through experiments they are getting answers to the hows and whys of how things work. Science gives one the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills, pursue scientific interest further, and make informative decisions. In understanding the importance of science and its benefits, I’m more than delighted to have discovered Visual Learning Systems, an educational science publisher that offers top-quality visual curriculum for grades Primary all the way through High-school.

As part of the Schoolhouse Crew Review team, I’ve been given the opportunity to share my thoughts upon Visual Learning Systems Digital Science Online: Elementary Edition (Grades K-5) curriculum (Digital Science Online: Secondary Edition (Grades 6-12) is also available). I’d been on the look out for science curriculum to use during the 2015-2016 school year that I could make work for both my children. I was having a hard time deciding, weighing many pros and cons. I’ll admit that this review opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time. This particular edition includes primary as well as elementary science which works perfectly for my 4 and 6 year old.
