Let VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer and a bunch of hilarious new friends explain the entire Bible to your kids in this groundbreaking fast-paced and fun-filled DVD series. Includes TWO 25 minute episodes: God’s Perfect Timing – Buck Denver and crew learn about the 400 years between the Old and New Testaments and how Jesus arrives at just the perfect time & The Messiah Has Come! – Learn about the life and ministry of Jesus-how He died for us and rose again to launch the kingdom of God in the world and in us!
Buck Denver asks…Volume 10: Jesus Is the Good News! is an excellent DVD to share with children, especially during the Holiday season. I say this because in celebrating Christmas as believers we are celebrating Christ, God’s gift to us. I feel it’s very important for children to see Him as more than just a babe in a manager. This collection teaches all about Jesus and what’s He’s done for us.
On this collection the Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke & John are explained and discussed. These books show us that Jesus’ arrival was perfect in timing! We also learn very much about God through Jesus’ life & ministry while here on the Earth from the promise of a Saviour to His ultimate sacrifice for us!
Phil Vischer ( creator of the VeggieTales) has done an excellent job is explaining all of this in ways children can understand easily. There’s puppets, flash animations, catchy songs, but aside from all that, the DVD explains much in a serious manner and encourages children if they have questions about any of the topics like salvation to talk to a parent, church leader, etc. I think it’s good that was suggested instead of praying a prayer right there and then not knowing what they should do next in their walk with Christ.
Things that were covered included: How the Power of Sin & Death Were Broken, That we all became sons & daughters of Christ, Jesus showed His Authority on Earth, That in the future there will be no evil and a New Kingdom of God is awaiting us, and much more. I would suggest watching one out of the two twenty-five minute episodes at a time and then discussing it before moving on. I appreciate there was a family discussion guide included with the DVD with great questions to direct conversations.
In addition to the DVD, there some fabulous extras found on the What’s in the Bible website to use and incorporate with watching the DVD. There’s coloring sheets, family discussion guide to back up what was learned and covered on the DVD, and more to print out absolutely free!
My children are quite fans of the series and we will continue to watch and discuss it! My daughter is 6 and she’s been asking more and more questions about God. I’m glad I’ve got this series to turn too for help in explaining and answering her! think this DVD is best suited for children age 5-10 years old and it’s really great for the whole family to enjoy together during this time of the year. We’ve been fan of this series for several years now and recommend this title as well as the others available highly.

Weird and Wonderful Creations is a 4 books in 1 collaboration from the Made By God series! This engaging non-fiction children’s book gives a up close and personal look at many different types of insects, animals, and plant life! My nearly four year old son and my six year old daughter really like this collection! I do too, knowing they are learning about science, nature, and creator God of all living things through fascinating facts and information. I’ve found this collection to be a great assest in our homeschooling and plan on incorporating it into many different unit studies for both of the kids.
Weird and Wonderful Creations includes:
- Spiders, Snakes, Bees and Bats
- Big Bugs, Little Bugs
- Sea Creatures
- Poisonous, Smelly, and Amazing Plants
There are well over 200 facts throughout the book! I learned a few new things myself. My kids have been going around mentioning things they’ve learned like how Spiders aren’t actually insects! That’s one that even I wasn’t aware of. Each featured animal, plant, or insect has about 6-7 pages dedicated to it solely. The layout is done well with facts and information on every page. The book is very colorful and the photos are excellent in detail offering lots of up close views!
There are many creatures to learn about in this book such as snakes, spiders, butterflies, Bats, Bee, Butterfly,Venus Fly Traps, Lightening Bugs, Ocra Whales, Redwoods, and more! I asked my children if they had a favorite creature from this book but they said they enjoyed learning about them all. This one has been looked at a lot since it’s arrived.
The reading level for this book is geared toward children in first and second grade. My daughter whom is currently doing first grade work had no problem reading this book. In fact, when we first got it, she picked it up and started reading it all on her own! My son age four had enjoyed having this book read to him and looking at all the pictures. Overall, this is an excellent nature study book and I would highly recommend it to boys and girls!
Felting by Elvira López Del Prado Rivas is an exciting book that teaches everything one would want to know about the craft. I with very little knowledge about felting before feel much more educated! I have not only been educated but inspired greatly to make my own interesting, creative, and unique things out of felt! Who knew such an age old technique from around 3500 B.C could be so be so exciting to learn about as well as take part in!
The book is put together very well being thoroughly detailed in the imagery of over 550-step-by-step photographs as well as in instructions and explanations. There are a total of five chapters which are: 1. Felt, 2. Material & Tools, 3. Processes, 4. Techniques, 5. Projects. Each of the chapters have several categories. At the end of the book there’s an Artist Gallery by International felt artist which features all sorts of interesting, inspiring, exciting, and amazing creations.
The twenty-eight original projects presented use both industrial felt and felted wool. You can learn whether using wet or dry felt to make flowers, balls, hats, purses, slippers, refrigerator magnets, dolls, finger puppets, jewelry, and more! There are so many projects I adore!
I took the opportunity to introduce my 3 and 6 year old to felt starting out with the felt sheets commonly found in craft stores and a few of the patterns in this book. These specific projects for younger kids include mostly cutting & gluing. Though note there are many more projects that have you creating felt yourself from wool!
As a knitter, I am quiet drawn to the patterns in this book that feature blocking and a few other techniques I’ve been eager to try but just hadn’t done so yet. This book is taking me out of my comfort zone and for that I am glad! It has taken my love for fiber crafting to yet another level! I highly recommend picking up a copy for home, school, or crafting group use!

Educational Insights My First Microscope is well suited for children ages 3-5 years old. It’s a winner of the 2014 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award 2014 Parents’ Choice Silver Award. It’s a must have to get little ones excited about science and ideal to be used till ready for a more advanced model.
This microscope I found to be well made and the colors are perfect for a boy or a girl. The features include 8x magnification, two eye holes instead of the typical just one for easy use, large knobs and buttons perfect for a small child’s hands and grip. The specimen area is wide and large enough to view flat as well as larger items such as pine-cones, leaves, blocks, seashells, a favorite toy, or whatever else. There is a light which requires 3 triple A batteries. Batteries are sold separately. The bottom of the microscope has slip proof feet to keep the scope from going anywhere while in use.
My three year old son was able to use this microscope without frustration. He tends not get the whole close one eye and look with the other thing so the fact that this one has a binocular like viewing is awesome. He uses this microscope a lot and it pleases me that his curiosity is rewarded instantly. I don’t have to worry about a more fragile model microscope and tend to just leave this one out for him to use whenever he pleases. All pieces are easy for him to turn on or rotate up or down to adjust the viewing. I would certainly recommend it!

Educational Insights Underwater Explorer Boat is pretty awesome! It combines imaginative play, science, and exploring altogether in an awesomely clever form. Children will be learning all about magnification and gravity without even realizing it!
The design is quite clever! Almost the entire underside of the boat is see-through allowing for 3x magnification of anything underwater! There’s no unwanted glare either when searching about. It features an orange buoy wrist strap to put on your child to prevent losing the boat. The bouy has some give and easily could be stretched to fit around my sons wrist. If you don’t favor the strap or buoy, with a little effort you can remove it. The strap has a break-away design for added safety.
The boat is child sized and quite easy to handle. My son really liked that the propellers on the back of the boat and the steering wheel was movable. The colors are bright and totally kid appealing. The boat is extremely durable and has been able to withstand the handling of my nearly 4 year old son very well.
I really like it can be used inside as well as outdoors. It’s versatile enough to use in the bathtub, water table, pool, beach, lake, and the kitchen sink. We’ve used it both inside and out, in water and grounded, and it’s still is looking great. We can’t wait to take it outdoors more during the warmer month of Spring and Summer. No doubt it will allows hours of learning and fun! My son often doesn’t want to get out of tub because he’s too busy exploring and rescuing the toys that floated to the bottom.
It’s really no wonder the Underwater Explorer Boat is a 2014 Parents’ Choice Award winner! I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a way to make water play more fun and educational too!
