Sheerluck Holmes and The Case of the Missing Friend {Book Review}

In VeggieTales I Can Read, Sheerluck Holmes and The Case of the Missing Friend children will learn the importance of always being kind to others. The Bible verse this book is based on is Proverbs 17:17 which states a friend loves at all times even when trouble comes. This is a great lesson to take to heart because sometimes that can be really hard to do even for adults. Often we may not intend on hurting someones feelings and in turn drive them away in a moment of disappointment but sometimes that happens. Stories such as this can help a child become more aware in not getting upset or to try to right that moment of wrong sooner before something upsetting or dangerous could happen. In this book a case is solved when something just as that did happen!

Bob and Larry are playing the roles of none other than Sherlock Holmes but in this case Larry is known as Sheerluck Holmes and Bob is Bobby Watson. They are residing in no other than London and have pipes in which they blow bubbles out of. A case is to be solved of a missing friend after a note was found that said feelings were hurt. It was dark and foggy out and the safety of this friend was questioned. I won’t give anything else away but the story was done well for the recommend ages of 4-8.

There are 32 pages in this paperback title. The illustrations fully cover the story on each page. My kids really liked the mystery and detective theme of the story. My 6 year old daughter was able to read this book on her own quite well. The book is on the beginning reading level which features short sentences, familiar words, and simple concepts that are easy for kids to comprehend on their own. She had no trouble at all with this book . We are are big Veggie Tale fans and were not at all disappointed! It’s good title to pick up if you are fans of the series or looking for you child to grasp that what we say or do can sometimes hurt the feelings of another and that we should always react in a loving way to whomever we meet.  I would recommend this reader for both boys and girls!

VeggieTales I Can Read, The Mess Detectives and the Case of the Lost Temper {Book Review}

The Mess Detectives and The Case of the Lost Temper is one of the many titles from Zonderkidz in the I Can Read Book series. My three and a half year old son and six year old daughter are quite the Veggie Tale fans and liked this story. I was excited about this title because my daughter has been reading much more this Summer and my aim has been to have character building and Christ centered books around that we could read together or all on her very own. The Veggie Tales whether books or the movies never seem to disappoint in teaching about God’s love and how to apply the taught truths to our own lives. Continue reading

I Can Read: The Berenstain Bears God Shows the Way {Book Review}

The Berenstain Bears God Shows the Way is one of the many great titles in the Living Lights I Can Read! series. Having grown up listening to my own mother read other collections of Berenstain Bears books  to me, I for certain was thrilled to learn about this 3 books in 1 title to share with my own children. One of the biggest draws for me to this specific book was the fact that my daughter could not just listen but be able to read it aloud on her very own! She after listening to me read all three stories was confident enough to read it on her own and I’ve even caught her reading it aloud to her 3 1/2 year old brother!  Continue reading
