Big Thoughts for Little People by Kenneth N. Taylor

Ken Taylor’s best-selling book is now updated with all-new bright and colorful illustrations and a larger trim size. Using the alphabet as a learning tool, the easy-to-use format of this beloved picture book connects Bible themes and verses that teach kids ages 3-7 Christian values. Each spread represents a letter of the alphabet and a Christian value or moral lesson beginning with the same letter. Kids are encouraged to find the lesson being modeled (or not) in the illustrations. They are also asked questions to help them apply the lesson to their lives. This book is sure to win the hearts of kids and parents alike.

My Thoughts…

This is one book that will be treasured for a lifetime, at least in my household. The illustrations really drew me in as each page is filled with bright colored images of children and their families in all sorts of situations and atmospheres. Illustrator Andrea Petrlik Huseinovic has done an excellent job in drawing readers in!

Author Kenneth N. Taylor has also done a great job in drawing both reader and listener in. On each spread, you’ll find  a letter of the alphabet with something that reads along like this “A is for asking. We ask when we pray. God is happy to answer and help us each day”, the illustration on the second page is then explained followed by questions and ending in a Bible verse!

I think this book would be wonderful reading anytime of the day for children of many ages. I love that there are questions that will challenge children to think about biblical concepts and character traits within themselves.

This book would make an excellent addition to any home and I highly recommend it!

I give this book 5 stars!

Holiday Gift Guide: Joy Berry Books Review

SER_OVR_FEW_1(1)Raising kids is hard, I have a 17 month old and I already know this first hand. Though this age can be very challenging in teaching my daughter certain issues, other life skills can already be will instilled into her by watching mommy and daddy’s actions. I try not think too hard about the future and enjoy the now. Though, I am always looking for great resources (especially books) in helping to raise a well mannered and responsible child.

I was asked by Debbie Bookstaber from Joy Berry Books if I was interested in reviewing and checking out their books for myself and I am very glad that I did!

About Joy Berry…

Joy Berry, pioneering educator, trusted child-development and parenting specialist, is the bestselling author of Joy Berry Classics for children with more than 250 titles and 85 million copies of her books sold. Joy Berry’s lifelong mission is to help kids help themselves by providing the information and motivation children need to lead responsible lives. Simply put, Joy Berry knows and understands children. Read more about Joy Berry

My Thoughts…

I was sent a book or two from each of the six series offered at Joy Berry ranging for children ages 1-12. The series are as follows;SER_OVR_TMA_1(1)

  • Teach Me About, for Ages 1-3
    (basic concepts of responsibility through simple and fun books, read-alongs and songs)
  • Let’s Talk About, for Ages 4-5
    (Learning to handle and manage emotions)
  • Help Me Be Good, for Ages 5-7
    (promotes good and responsible behavior).
  • A Fun and Easy Way, for Ages 7-10
    (tools and methods that help kids handle the responsibilities that come with school, friends and family life at this age)
  • Winning Skills, for Ages 11-12
    (focuses on responsible behaviors that lead to success.)
  • Good Answers to Tough Questions, for Ages 6-12
    (an open and honest approach to  difficult circumstances and ways to turn negative experiences into positive ones.)

The two books I sent from the “Teach Me About Series” are “Teach Me About Bedtime Board Book” and“Teach Me About Mealtime Board Book”. I like the fact that each of these books comes with a companion CD which includes songs and a read-along of the story read by Joy herself!

I’ve been reading the Bedtime Board Book before bedtime each day and my daughter and she seems to really enjoy it. She points to the pictures of the little girl in the story brushing her teeth, and when she sees the little girl in her bed my daughter lays down on her pillow. It’s too cute. I am hoping that with the determination of myself and the encouragement of this story, that  my daughter will adjust to a bedtime routine as  for the last month or so, bedtime has been anything but scheduled making it hard to peacefully sleep and rest in the evenings.

I’ll be starting potty-training soon and am looking into Joy Berry’s book on potty training called, Do-It-Yourself Potty Training Kit For Big Girls. This fantastic resource includes; Potty Book, CD, Instructions, Helpful Hints, Progress Chart, Progress Stickers, Diploma, & Push ‘N’ Play Sound Button that sounds of words of encouragement when your little one does her duty! ( note that this kit is also available for boys too!).

SER_OVR_GATQ_1(1)I give these books a mom rating of 5 stars!

Joy Berry books would be great additions to any families home, school, library, and even church! I can’t help to think that these would be great gifts to give during the Holiday season as well!

You can purchase Joy Berry’s Books directly from the website or online at Amazon Joy Berry Books: Great For Children.

My Story Bible: 66 Favorite Stores by Godfrey & Grudina

326719: My Story Bible: 66 Favorite Stories

My Story Bible: 66 Favorite Stories

By Jan Godfrey & Paola Bertolini Grudina / Tyndale House

Pique your 3- to 6-year-olds’ interest about the Word of God! This colorful storybook features charming illustrations that will capture kids’ attention and a writing style that combines imaginative text, repetitive phrases, and engaging descriptions to bring the characters alive. Your children will remember these popular and lesser-known Bible stories for years to come. 144 pages, hardcover from Tyndale.

My Thoughts…

I don’t know what more you could ask for in Bible Story book than what this book has to offer.  Jan Godfrey author of this book, has done a wonderful job in breaking down sometimes difficult to comprehend Bible stories .  The simplicity of this book is perfect for children to read on their own as well as being read to during family Bible time.

Throughout this book, you’ll find 66  stories taken from Genesis all the way to Revelations.  You’ll learn about Noah, Moses, Jesus, Naaman, and more. I love that stories that may not be commonly heard at church like the story of Naaman are added into the mix.

Being a graphic designer myself and a fellow believer, I appreciate the beautiful faith inspired illustrations by Paola Bertolini Grudina, in which I am sure children will as well.

I imagine when reading through these stories that children will have engaging questions, which is wonderful in growing their knowledge in God and challenging whomever may be reading the book to answer.

This book is written for 3-6 year olds. I’m waiting to read it to my daughter but I am sure we’ll both be enjoying it together for years and years to come!

I highly recommend this book!  It’s a wonderful way to share many Bible stories with your children or the children in your life.  It would also make a wonderful gift!

Stars 5 *****

My Thoughts:

Who Made the World?“ is one of the latest books by author Kathleen Bostrom. In this book, you’ll find that it  favors the on going theme in all the Little Blessings books, addressing common questions. Each story book covers question like “Where Do I come From, How Should We Thank God, and What did God make first and last?”, all commonly asked by younger children withing the ages of 3-6  in their search of learning more about God and creation.

The illustrations by Elena Kucharik, draw children in and correspond well with the story being told with animated behavior and cheerful colors.

One of my on going  favorite features is that at the end of the book as well as in any of the Little Blessings books is the of Bible references section. These references go along  with the story which was written in rhyme, an ingenoius way to help children remember what was read.

I look forward to collecting more of the books in this series to share with my children.

The Jesus Book by: Stephen Elkins

_140_245_Book.70.coverThe Jesus Book
By Stephen Elkins
Illustrated by Claudine Gevry
Juvenile Nonfiction/Religion
Bible Stories/General
$16.99 US/Hardcover
Thomas Nelson

About the Author

Stephen Elkins is a best-selling author, musician, and Grammy-nominated producer. He is author of the 100 Bible Stories series and Read-n-See DVD Bible. Claudine Gevry illustrator of over sixty books including “The Jesus Book”. Her whimsical style is shown throughout this book.

About the Book

The Jesus book is one of the best resources and educational guides that I’ve seen for children on the market!  Author Stephen Elkins makes understanding everything we need to know about Jesus very simple by breaking it down in the following seven sections:

* Who Jesus Is
* What Jesus Did
* What Jesus Taught
* When It Happened
* Why It Happened
* How It Happened

A very useful time line is  included  in the When it Happened section starting the readers in Genesis and ending in John. Located in the Where it Happened section you’ll find colorfully illustrated maps that show were Jesus walked throughout his journey. In the What Jesus Taught section you’ll find that Jesus liked to minister to those around him with parables and you’ll see how he taught us to pray. In the Why and How it happened section, children will learn why Jesus was sent to save us and how it happened.

Each mini story of explanation is backed with scripture  that you may choose to look up in your own Bible to show children how what they are being taught is also in the Bible. I think it’s never to early to teach children to look to the Word of God for answers that  they may be seeking.

A fun thirty song filled cd by the Wonder Kids is also included  featuring well loved Bible songs like Stand Up For Jesus, God is so Good, and Do Lord just to name a few of the wonderful tracks.

My Thoughts

Stephen Elkins has done a wonderful job with this book. Illustrator Claudine Gevry also does a great job in bringing to life each page with her colorful eye catching illustrations.  The music cd is a great addition as many of the songs I grew up listening to as a child!

I am looking forward to sharing this book with my children, as I know many questions that may be asked or pondered about Jesus will be answered. This book would be great for home, church, and even school use. I give this book 5 stars!
