Three Weeks Old

Since I found sometime, how about an update?

Melody seems to be growing and changing a lot. She been awake a lot more… sometimes for hours at a time. She really likes to fight sleep… I guess she thinks she’ll miss out on something. She’s been getting Tummy time everyday and boy, she’s so strong as she is really good at scooting everywhere. She’s almost got complete control of her head too.

I haven’t been able to make a appointment with her Specialist yet due to getting records sent over and now he’s not in the office till sometime later this week.

I’m doing good.. just some days are harder than others depending on how much sleep I manage to get through out the day and especially the night. Daddy’s been doing okay too… he’s been super helpful at night when she wakes up. He’ll change her for me or bring her to me in bed, last night he went and watched some tv with her since she was staying up. I’m glad I’ve got a good and helpful husband… he helps give me some relief since it can be such a task for me to tend to her by myself everyday and juggle other tasks as well.

Lab Visit

We met with LAB people today and they took so much blood out of my poor little baby. First they took one from her left arm and thought that was all they needed then they checked and had to get more… so they took more from her other arm. Then before we thought we could go her blood was not usable because they drew it too slowly so then they had to fill four little ones up from her feet.. all the squeezing left a nasty bruise on her foot :( She cried and cried… and I couldn’t do anything to stop it from happening…  had to keep telling myself it was for her own good.

We will find out the results of her blood test tomorrow and see were we will go  from there. Right now she is a prescription for her Thyriod called Levothyroxine.. I have to crush up a tablet and half for her daily until otherwise notified by her Doctor. I gave her some tonight in a little medicine dropper mixed with breast milk and she didn’t spit too much back… She had a long day and is sleeping well now…

So, we’ll know tomorrow the whole situation and what we’ll be having to do.

My Poor Baby

No mother ever wants to receive news that their is something wrong with their child, trust me. I got the results back from Melody’s newborn screening and it seems that she tested positive for congenital hypothyroidism and what that is exactly is something that cause your child to grow at a slower pace….. retarded growth and brain development problems. I was reassured that it could be helped with medication… so they are doing more test on her today to really make sure that she has it and they are going to be starting her on this pill that I am going to have to figure out how to crush up and administer it to her… easier for people that formula feed trust me. So, if Melody does have this problem, she will probably have to get a specialist from Emmanuel Children’s Hospital and possibly be taken to get blood drawn all the time so she can be closely monitored.

Please pray for Melody, Justin, and I as we are going through all this. I’ll keep you informed on the situation…
