If you asked my older children their favorite subject school I am more than certain they’d chime back with a reply that it is Science. I’m not surprised by this because I know children (and adults! ) are all about discovering new things, learning how things work, and determining how that information could be applied where applicable. This type of discovering is much like learning to be a Christian and growing to be more like Jesus! So when I heard about Louie Giglio’s latest book ” Indescribable 100 Devotions for Kids About God and Science”, that pair these two very impact subjects together, I knew it would be the perfect book for my family.
In this book, the author applies Biblical truth and Scientific facts together to point to the glory of God’s creation all around us. There is focus on Space, Earth, Animals, and People. These devotions are all mixed in together but if you want to focus on one specific area at a time, you’ll find the exact page number for each at the introduction of the book. I love that you have the option to skip around or just stay the course from start to finish reading 1 through 100.
Devotionals feature colorful illustrations, real-life photos, scientific facts (“Be Amazed”), a Bible verse, and a short prayer to pray after the reading. The devotions I feel are cleverly written. The writing is easy to understand and the facts chose to share are memorable.
Did you know that Ants and Caterpillars work together or that Plum, Peaches, and Pears are in the Rose family? I learned that Cape Blanco in Oregon is the windiest places on the Earth! We live in Oregon and were excited to learn this bit of information. I am thinking a field trip is in order to further our study in this area! These bits of information are getting tied into our homeschool lessons on geography and science!
My 9 and nearly 7-year-old really like this book. I read it in the morning or afternoon to them both. I feel it challenges my kids to really think about what is read. I know they are getting it and enjoying it because they share it with those they know and mention it again to their Dad or me at a later time. Learning about Jesus and all the amazing creations of God all in one place is something I have desired for a long time for my kids.
