I love learning about the ocean and all the creatures and plants that make it their home. I used to live on the Coast when I was a child and was quite taken with learning about all the wonderful things it gives back to people. I love that the sea is so vast with many undiscovered species we’ve yet to even lay our eyes upon. Life is more interesting when some things have left a mystery. Today, however, we are actually going to take a look at the many fish that have been discovered in Tam Warner Minton’s latest book “All Fish Faces“.
In this book, one will learn about many species of tropical fish that make their homes in several different Tropical Reefs around the world. Species photographed included fish in the following families; Puffer Fish, Angel Fish, Butterfly Fish, Parrot Fish, Charming, Trigger Fish, File Fish, Frog Fish, Toad Fish, Scorpion Fish, Lion Fish, Box Fish, Groupers, Anemone Fish, and many more!
The photos of the fish faces are excellently done and quite interesting to look at. I just love seeing all the unique differences. Each fish that is pictured has a name label and the family group it comes from has interesting facts about their species.
I plan on using this book when drawing fish faces to add to my art journal! I love having all the pictures in one place like this. I’m using this book for my homeschooling for my three children. We’ve been looking at different fish families and furthering our studies on each. The book has been a great starting point as the author provides interesting facts about the fish from what they do for the environment and different attributes that they have. For example, Did you know that Angel Fish are also known as Cleaner Fish? They clean larger fish of parasites and bacteria!
We learned some interesting things about Clown Fish, Lion Fish, and Pufferfish that we soon won’t forget. We’ve seen a few of these fish at our local zoo and aquarium but there were many more pictured we’ve never laid eyes on before. I think it’s great the author decided to share some of her adventures with us through such a great book!
I think this book is great for children of all ages. My 1 1/2-year-old, 6-year-old, and 9 year old all seemed to like it. If you have a child that loves learning about fish or the ocean, ALL FISH FACES: Photos and Fun Facts about Tropical Reef Fish would make a great gift!
“In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; we will understand only what we are taught.” (Baba Dioum, 1968.)
Why write a series about Ocean Friends? Baba Dioum said it perfectly. I am the blogger/travel writer/photographer behind Travels with Tam, and the author of ALL FISH FACES. I have traveled to all seven continents, and am an advocate for citizen science, the environment, and getting out of one’s comfort zone. An avid scuba diver, I take many trips involving diving and the marine world, and I am a very enthusiastic amateur underwater photographer. I challenge my perspective, my confidence, my knowledge and my physical ability by traveling the world, and sharing what I’ve learned with others. My book series, Ocean Friends, introduces beautiful underwater creatures you may have never seen before! As a former University Lecturer and college consultant, I am a firm believer that knowledge is power, and education is always a positive force. Teaching people to love our oceans and ocean animals is the best way to preserving our oceans for future generations!
Photography and Fun Facts about tropical reef fish, ALL FISH FACES will entertain people of all ages! Getting to know our underwater world is a fascinating journey into the unknown! It is so important to introduce children, kids, and adults to our ocean and its animals so we can protect it for future generations. 10% of profits will go to the Marine Megafauna Foundation so they can continue their scientific research to protect our oceans and ocean giants.
