Mason Jar Salads and More: 50 Layered Lunches to Grab and Go
The Mason Jar Salads and More: 50 Layered Lunches to Grab and Go cookbook has changed the way we do things around my home! A book that not only gives on the proper mindset but also the will to dive in is quite something that one doesn’t come by often. Everything you’d want to know about creating salads in a mason jar is covered but it gos beyond in providing recipes for snacks, breakfasts, vinaigrettes, dips and lunches that contain more than just the general green stuff. I was assuming there’d just be your green salads with veggies thrown in but there’s pastas, fried rices, and other delicious combinations to compile that are something to brag about!
In using this book, my family has saved money. My husband works crazy hours and I’ve recently had a baby. Making him lunches every evening to take the next day wasn’t working. We were bumping into him taking leftovers that were meant for another meal if he wasn’t purchasing food out. This was a problem so we figured we’d give this method a try. After creating lunches, breakfast, and snacks in a jar the flow of the week when it comes to food has changed for the better. A huge stressor on the wallet and the time to compile those two main meals every evening for the entirety of the week was lifted!
This book breaks food categories down by easy to turn to chapters. Before you start, there’s a great introduction of the what, why, and how. There are picture instructions with easy to understand explanations. The benefits are portion control, saving time, saving money, easy cleanup, glass is best, and airtight seal. Now if you do plan to sit down and make lunches it’s best to set an hour to do so. We hit our farmers market weekly for salad ingredients on a Saturday and on Sunday we compile our lunches for the entire week. We’ve been doing this for over a month now and it’s been work really well.
Most of the recipes serve 1-2 people depending on what you are making. Most of the recipes have a large full-color photo so you can see just how you should be layering each ingredient. Some recipes include helpful tips. I’m loving the variation of lunches I could be making and have already implemented the fruit jar recipes and the smoothies for myself. Whether following the recipes or mixing things up, this book as an excellent starting point and I can’t recommend it enough!
