momdaybooks

I am one that prefers practical gifts. I feel these sort of gifts are better because the use last far longer than something like cut flowers or edible treats. One of my favorite practical gift suggestions are books that cater toward ones interests and hobbies. Chances are if you go down this route for a gift, you can’t go wrong. Choosing the right book shows you have taken notice to the things your mom loves!  I’m featuring a few books today that likely cater toward many mothers. line

The Seashell Collector
The American Museum of Natural History

If you love the beach, collecting shells, and learning history in the process you won’t want to pass this by. It features stunning beautiful artwork and is presented in a keepsake box format. There is a place for the receiver to place their own special shells whether gifted or discovered on their own. The box caters to all sorts of sizes with removable and adjustable dividers. The front of the box has a see-thru top so one can proudly display or share their discoveries with whomever they wish. Aside from the high quality keepsake box, there are 15 postcards showcasing different shells; a 64-page journal; and an accordion-style booklet with stunning illustrations from the American Museum of Natural History’s Rare Book Collection on one side and an expert overview of conchology and shell types on the other.

I think this is a beautifully personal gift. The soft hues, colors, and intricate to detail is very pronounced. The beachcomber and collector is given the opportunity to share their joy with others and keep a journal on their findings of shells all in one attractive place. It’s certainly something to not pass along if used to its full potential!

Vogue® Knitting Stitchionary® Volume One: Knit & Purl: The Ultimate Stitch Dictionary
by Vogue Knitting Magazine : www.sixthandspring.com

A perfect reference for knitters of all skills level. This book over 250 stitch pattern variations that you can incorporate into any project. There are patterns as easy as just knit in purl to more intricate lace work and advanced textured patterns. It would have been nice to have a pictorial index but it’s easy enough to find and discover variations by flipping through the categories. I find when flipping through that I often come across a pattern that may work better than what I had originally intended for a specific project. Instructions are easy to comprehend if you already know how to read patterns and understand specific abbreviations. Note that in the back of the book there is an abbreviation key and illustrations in how to do yarn overs. In my opinion, this book is a must have for any knitter.
