Devotions from the Garden: Finding Peace and Rest in Your Busy Life By Miriam Drennan is a beautiful book. I was drawn right away to this devotional because find great joy and take rest in gardening. Gardening concepts tied to scripture reading can offer one deep reflection upon the path taken in life with God. In fact, one of my favorite parables in the Bible told by Jesus is the parable of the sower also known as the parable of the soil. A garden is where humans first began fellowship with God and in knowing this I feel there’s no better a center than a garden to revolve a devotional book around.
There are 90 devotions within the book. There’s no set day or dates to read through schedule which makes this devotional a good choice to keep around on the shelf indefinitely. I like the fact I can pick this up during the start of the Spring Gardening season and it’ll take me through Summer. If I so choose, I can go through it again next year. The concepts and truths will just as much apply then as they do now.
Throughout the book there are beautifully photographed plants, insects, and scenes you’d see in just about any garden. The devotions are two pages long and can be read in about 4-5 minutes. There is a title, a scripture verse, thoughts upon how the scripture relates to something in the garden as well as in our lives, and the ending is an application prayer to pray. A rose colored ribbon bookmark is bound into the book that is helpful in keeping ones place each day.
I feel very blessed by the devotions in this book. I’m encouraged as well convicted in my daily walk. I feel this book would make a wonderful for gift for anyone that loves to garden but not limited to just. Highest of recommendations.
