The Adventures of Pajama Girl and the Coronation of the Cupcake Queen is a cute story. My six year old daughter told me she really likes this book since it features two of her favorite things, pajamas and cupcakes. Even I was drawn in by the illustrations of a dream land filled with sugary sweet treats. But all sugary goodness aside, there’s a very important message to be learned in this tale. The lesson is a very pertinent one about not stealing, remembering to include others when possible, forgiveness, and not to ruin other people’s day just because your feelings got hurt and you got left out. These lessons are important to learn as children will certainly encounter them in their own daily lives.
The art in this book is certainly something to get excited about. The main character enters a dream worlds thanks to her special pajamas so the land she visits is quite whimsy. We see cupcakes, frosting, cookies, and candy galore. One would obviously not expect anything less from a Cupcake Kingdom Dreamworld. Though this book can be read anytime I feel it’s the perfect pick for right before children enter their own dream worlds. A great pick for bedtime.
The messages to be taken away from this book certainly can prompt a good discussion time. It’s a good gateway to ask your child about their feelings whether feeling hurt, left out, or just being on the end of seeing these things happen between friends. There is scripture in the book. There’s no parent area or further talk in how to go about discussing the story or these types of situations. It would have been nice to include but I feel parents or caregivers can easily enough offer advice and pray with a child about it.
My daughter and my son sat through a reading of this story. I would recommend this book and we are looking forward to more in this series to collect!
