Noah A Wordless Picture Book by Mark Ludy (Book Review & Giveaway)

Noah by author Mark Ludy is an exceptionally beautiful picture book! I was truly in awe at the amazing imagery and detail put into each and every page. The intricate details have been a delight to gaze upon again and again and make this Biblical retelling come alive! There are no words or verses other than Methuselah welcomes his grandson, Noah on the very first page.

As the story begins, we get a feel of the area and people Noah may have lived near and how he wasn’t very young in age. We see that God calls him to do this amazing task of building the Ark. The illustrations shows the feelings in the faces and body actions of the characters extremely well. We see how constructing as well as gathering animals as well as nurturing them may have been. We see Noah’s family grow ensuring that most of this certainly didn’t happen in a short amount of time either. From the call, being obedient, and a wait through the storm it ends with God’s delivering promise to not just Noah but us all.

An additional bonus is that the author made it a bit for fun for children studying the pictures to find a little mouse named Squeakers on each and every page in the book. It’s actually not as easy you would think to find the mouse but the challenge was welcomed by my nearly four year old son and 6 1/2 year old daughter.

As a parent, I would like to point out this this book could be scary or confusing to younger children. This is a pretty accurate book so there;s obviously shady people depicted and some images of the rain coming down to flood the earth and of the people not living for God outside of the ark drinking wine and partying. There’s nothing explicit or violent. Just use wisdom and be ready to explain and answer questions. This book gives a pretty accurate portrayal and I applaud it for that.

Overall, this book has been a joy and real blessing to share with my children when retelling the story of Noah. I think it would be a welcome addition to any home or church class.
