Veggie Tales: Pirates, Mess Detectives, and a Superhero by Karen Poth {book review}

vegg3in1

My son and daughter ages 3 & 5 years old were certainly excited about the recently released I Can Read title Veggie Tales: Pirates, Mess Detectives, and a Superhero through Zonderkidz! We are are big Veggie Tale fans so I knew we would be in for a treat! There’s just something engaging about those God loving Veggies and their Bible Based life lesson that has us eager for more! This title is the first in our Veggie Tale book collection and after such a great response from my kids toward the stories, it most certainly won’t be our last.

My daughter that’s nearly six years old I knew would benefit greatly from this book! She loves Veggie Tales and has recently gotten past early readers. This book though some of the words are little big, she enjoyed reading her way through! The sentences are simple so they kept her going instead of giving up reading the story. Sometime my daughter struggles with certain words and wants to give up altogether but we didn’t have that response from her at all! In fact, she has wanted to read this book over and over again! That fact makes me extremely happy, not only is she advancing her reading skills but she is also growing in God taking the lessons taught to heart!

The three stories in this title are “Pirate in Training”, “LarryBoy and the Mudslingers”, and “Listen Up, Larry”. Each stories starts with a Bible verse. The Bible verse can also be used as a memory verse, if you so choose. The stories are short but they get the point across to take to heart. My kids liked all the stories but “LarryBoy and the Mudslingers” was definitely their favorite. That story talks about forgiveness and how our anger can stick to us like mud if we let it! As a mom, I really liked the “Listen Up, Larry” story in how not listening the first time can leave you in undesirable predicaments! The first story was about how Junior didn’t want to go to school anymore because he thought it was boring and that it would be more fun to venture the high seas as a pirate! Overall, each story held well on its own! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book and most certainly will be looking for more like this for my kids!
