The Sparkle Egg by Jill Hardie{Book Review & Giveaway}

The Sparkle Egg by Jill Hardie, Illustrated by Christine Kornacki is one of my favorite Christ-centered children’s Easter books to date. The mystery of what a sparkle egg was about and the wonder of what surprise would be awaiting the boy inside is certainly sparked both my kids interest. Being honest, it also perked my interest quite a bit too! The front hard-cover features a brightly colored Easter Basket with the sparkle egg sitting amongst the green paper grass and other chocolate goodies. There are 32 pages total of the book and the back page features how to make your own Sparkle Egg during the Easter Season.

I always try to make sure that amongst all the chocolate bunnies, brightly colored Spring decorations, and egg hunts that my children not lose why as Christians we celebrate the Easter holiday. The promise of Easter is that of Grace and Forgiveness from Christ. I believe that this book was written well in explaining and demonstrating those two truths on a level that 4-8 year child could understand. There are many traditions families that celebrate Easter often partake in to be seen through out the story such as dying eggs, receiving an Easter basket full of goodies, and attending church Easter morning.

I appreciate that there are two verses included in the book which are John 3:16 and 1 John 1:9. These verses talk about God’s love for us in how Christ laid down his life for us as well how he is faithful and just forgiving from all our wrong doings. I believe any child as well as adult can take much from this story. How often do we slip up and even though perhaps someone apologized still hold onto guilt and shame. Oh, how we must accept Christ’s gift and be forgiven so we can can shine for Jesus!

What’s was placed in the Sparkle Egg? I believe that’s for the reader and listeners of this book to find out for themselves. My family enjoyed this book so much and that suggestion of creating our own Sparkle Eggs that I think we’ll be adding a new tradition to our celebration of the Easter season. I most certainly recommend this book for home & Sunday school class use! Perhaps it will spark a new Easter tradition in your family too!
