Listen to the Birds {review & giveaway}

Listen to the Birds: An Introduction to Classical Music is a beautifully unique storybook that cleverly introduces the world of classical music to children of all ages. In doing so the melodious similarities of instrumental notes such as the flute, harpsichord, organ, and so on are compared to the sounds of bird songs. The works of composers such as Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, and many more have been included.

This particular storybook comes with a 26 minute long musical CD that features 20 experts from different recordings performed by world class luminaries including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Toronto Chamber Orchestra. The storybook itself visually is inspiring and each illustration is very well suited in my opinion for the pieces of music it represents. Also, it’s hard cover making it very durable. The book is 64 pages long.

In addition the book has wonderfully informative glossary full of all sorts of musical terms. There’s also a section featuring a short biography of each composer as well as a brief description of each bird mentioned in the composition. All of the information makes it easy to include this book and CD combination into a study teaching children all about classical music. I know I’ll personally be incorporating it into the home education of my two children. Age recommendations are ages 7 and up.

This book will be released in America on May 15th & in Canada on the 28th of May. This book I highly recommend. It’s simply beautiful to the eyes, ears, and will likely invoke curiosity and perhaps a love for classic music to whomever is willing to give a listening ear.
