Book Review: Raising Your Kids to Love the Lord
Dave Stone’s book Rasing Your Kids to Love the Lord is great go to resource book for parents of all kinds. There are practical life lessons, stories from the author’s own personal walk with his children, and biblical scriptures of truth. This book is meant to encourage the reader in whatever area or circumstance that they might going through.
I personally found this title to be a really quick read. I couldn’t put it down. A lot of the points in the book, I already knew growing up in a Christian household as a child. The same truths and morals taken away from my reading have served as a reminder to apply what I’ve been taught to parenting my own kids. Basically you don’t try to fix your kids, you lead by example so that they might see Christ within you. Easier said than done sometimes because not all kids are as compliant and the author even mentions that.
A paragraph in Raising Your Kids to Love the Lord that stood out to me was this: “God isn’t expecting us to be perfect. He just wants us to look to the one that is. If God is truly more concerned with direction than perfection, then next year you’ll be a better parent because you’re learning, maturing, and being transformed by His spirit”.
Parenting can be quite the challenge. I say this as a mother of a four year old daughter and nearly two year old son. Some days go by really smoothly and other days not so much. But I can say that starting the day with Christ, being encouraged by other parents, and simply just applying and believing God has the best for you and your kids will make the daunting task of parenting more bearable and rewarding.
This book has a been a great resource to me. It’s a quick read and it’s not a step by step how do I get my kids to just listen to me. We are meant to disciple our children and direct them in the way of God not control and prevent them making their own choices ( some battles are meant to be won though!). I like that this book gives practical advice and points the readers in pointing them in that direction.
