About the Author
A former schoolteacher, DONITA K. PAUL is the best-selling author of the Dragon Keeper series, The Vanishing Sculptor, and Dragons of the Valley. She enjoys cooking, beading, stamping, knitting, and her grandsons. Not necessarily in that order.
The daughter of novelist Donita K. Paul, EVANGELINE DENMARK grew up living and breathing good stories. Now she enjoys fiction writing and loves to share Roger and Padraig stories with her own two rambunctious boys.
The Dragon and the Turtle written by authors Donita K. Pail and Evangeline Denmark & illustrated by Vincent Nguyen is a sweet tale. In this story, we meet a dragon and turtle that develop a great friendship. The Dragon meets the turtle while in search for a snack for himself but when he sees that turtle is lost, he puts his own needs behind him and helps his new friend. An excellent concept in teaching kids on how we should help each other and be selfless.
Throughout the story the dragon and turtle go on a search to find turtles home going from place to place. It takes a bit of time till they reach the turtle’s home but all the while, children will learn more about what’s very special about turtles home that he loves so much. This is great as it can turn a child to tell you what they love and remember about their own home.
The book is in hard cover format and is very well illustrated and is sure to keep a child’s attention as the story is read. At the end of the book, there are discussion questions that are great for home or even a bigger group lesson as being used in children’s church or Sunday school. I love that a scripture verse is added in which the book is based off of. ” A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity,” Proverbs 17:17.
Included is also a recipe that we hope to try out soon for Chocolate Chip Snapper cookies that the characters in the book ended up snacking on once they reached their destination.
My 2 1/2 year old daughter really enjoyed this book and we’ve read it several times since we got it. I am looking forward to getting the next title to see what adventures dragon and turtle go on next.
